Submissions, + tipping jar [Sep. 20th, 2010|07:43 am]
Dr. Kvetch
 (reposted from stonetellingmag )

Just a brief reminder that Stone Telling reopened to submissions today, Sep. 20th.  You can find the guidelines on the Stone Telling website. We are still committed to showcasing diversity in theme and voice. Please send your submissions to poetry at stonetelling.com - I'm looking forward to reading your poems.

In addition to poetry, I am looking to publish non-fiction columns (reviews, and features on speculative poetry around the world). Please contact me if you would be interested in writing for ST, and please see current columns for examples of what I am looking for.

Earlier this summer, some community members asked me about ways to donate. I replied with the following:

Ways to donate: absolutely. In fact, donations might well make a difference in how many poems I will be able to accept, and whether there'll be an annual print anthology. I also have some very interesting ideas for reprints and additional features that can flourish with a bit of community help. I am, however, very reluctant to put up a donation button before the first issue has been published...

Now that the first issue has been published, and you can see for yourself what kind of work we are showcasing, I am less apprehensive about putting up a donation button.

Here's how our costs currently break up:

Current expenses:

1. Domains: stonetelling.com and stonetelling.net, 20$ per year
2. Web Hosting: 10$ a month (120$ per year)
3. Poets are paid 5$ a poem (60-70$ per issue) - this is funded by my meager (but so far sufficient) fiction sales.

What I'd like to afford, but cannot

1. Pay 15$ per non-fiction column
2. Discretionary funds to purchase original poetry by Fabulous Luminaries
3. Yearly ST anthology.

Putting the question of an anthology aside for now (we'll reexamine that next year), my most urgent need is to be able to pay the non-fiction columnists; the current issue contributors donated their work.  Though this is not a plea for donations, if some of you decide to throw some coins into the jar, it would be very welcome.

I don't know what your contract looks like, but is it theoretically possible that things could be put into epub?

Theoretically yes. Why? I have no epub plans at this point, and I doubt I can find more time in my day to do it.

I can send you the contract to look at.

I might-could find the time for the first issue to see how it went. Also possible to try to sell the epub format as an "easier to read", or wrap a donation button around it, something-like.

Thanks - and :D

There is enough money to pay for the poetry, it's the nonfiction columns I hope to fundraise for. I feel it's more fun with the nonfiction columns :)
